OUR PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Welcome everyone – interns, members, friends and supporters! At DM, we dream of and fight for a real democracy – where every vote is counted, every voice is heard, and all our rights are protected and strengthened.
DM students are registering students, checking absentee ballots, and urging everyone to vote! We are laser-focused on Nov. 8, and I’m so proud to be working with all of you! ADONAL

IDEA OF THE MONTH
Political Trick or Treat
HALLOWEEN is only a week before Election Day! Have fun celebrating Halloween by reminding everyone it’s time to get out and VOTE!
- Send cool DM social media Halloween messages and graphics about voting. (What’s scarier than 1,000,000 ghosts? NOT VOTING! etc. etc.)
- Table in costume with DM political “trick or treat” quizzes, games, and clever voting reminders!
- Post funny DM Halloween-type voting posters/flyers around campus.
On Election Day text/call/email everyone you know to remind them to vote. Ask them to contact 5 others, who then can contact 5 more, etc.

QUOTE OF THE MONTH
“If enough of us act together, we can fix the system so government can work for you, your family, and the rest of us. We can fix our democracy, avoid autocracy, and unlock our common good.” Rick Hubbard
Rick Hubbard is an activist who is walking from LA to DC to spread his democracy message.

UNIONS TO THE RESCUE
This month, Mandle comments on the growing strength of the union movement today, with increased organizing victories and rising popular support. He speculates that a rejuvenated labor movement could strengthen the fight against Trumpism’s corrosive influence on American politics.

FACTS YOU CAN USE Forgiving Student Debt
There was good news flast month for those of the 40 million Americans carrying student debt whose income is less than $125,000. Stident debt for up to $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients and $10,000 for other borrowers will be cancelled.
The cost of college has nearly tripled since 1980. By 2020, the average debt for students at four year institutions had ballooned to $28,400. With 90% of forgiveness going to those who make less than $75,000, racial equality will increase and the growing wealth gap will shrink.
