CAMPUS HIGHLIGHT
La Salle University
DM chapter activists have been registering and persuading students to vote. One of the most exciting efforts has been in the swing state of Pennsylvania.
DM at LaSalle U, led by Maddie Griffin, has built collaborative actions with others, including a two-day voter registration drive with the Zeta Phi Deta sorority, and a successful ice cream social with the political science department and a student org, LaSalle Votes.
DM at LaSalle is now also gathering student signatures on a petition to cancel classes on Election Day!

QUOTE OF THE MONTH

“Your vote is the most powerful nonviolent tool we have to create a more perfect union.”
John L Lewis, former civil rights activist and member of Congress.

halloween 2IDEA OF  THE MONTHA DEMOCRACY HALLOWEEN

During the week of Halloween create fun and provocative ways to encourage everyone to vote.               Celebrate Halloween by:

  • Tabling in costume with voting information. Using interactive white boards or big sheets of paper for students to write about why they’re going to vote.
  • Creating skits about voting in high traffic areas on campus (get your drama majors involved!)
  • Making Halloween-themed posters, flyers and quarter-cards about voting: “What’s scarier than ghouls and goblins? Not voting!!”  “Don’t be tricked on November 5th – VOTE!” Make up your own funny quotes (include voting information and the DM logo).
  • Setting up a soap box or open mic on campus – have DMers and others tell everyone why this election is so important to them.
  • Making videos interviewing students about election issues most important to them.
  • Posting Halloween-related reasons to vote on social media every day.

MONEY ON MY MINDTRUMP’S  ECONOMIC FANTASIES
This month, Mandle examines Donald Trump’s bogus economic proposals, especially his promotion of tariffs. Trump’s economic fantasies, if implemented, would harm both American consumers and small importing businesses. Trump manages to continually demonstrate his economic illiteracy.

State and national hotlines are up and running to protect YOUR right to vote. Trained volunteers will answer your questions before and on November 5th
They’ll provide personalized guidance at every step of the voting process, tell you exactly where to vote, and provide help with tracking mailed ballots.
Call a hotline immediately if you see problems at polling places (including malfunctioning machines, long lines etc), voter intimidation, attempts to create obstacles or deny anyone’s right to vote, or any other anti-democratic actions.
