Political Poetry Slam

Organize a poetry slam  – if possible  do it outside to attract a crowd. Publicize that Democracy Matters is sponsoring a poetry slam event where everyone reads poems about current issues, politics, democracy etc. The poems can be original or people can read their favorite poems. Offer a prize for the best original poeems. Get some of the poems published in the school newspaper or put out your own flyer with them on it. You might talk to a professor in the English Dept. who teaches poetry and see if you can enlist her/his help.

To make this successful you need to publicize the event widely and also make sure that Democracy Matters folks either write or find poems that they read to get things started.
